Pain Clinic

Recent advances in veterinary pain management have significantly expanded the options available for the treatment of both acute and chronic pain states. At Blaise Birmingham, our multidisciplinary approach is led by European boarded specialists in anaesthesia and analgesia, with the aim of optimising patient comfort, improving function, and enhancing recovery outcomes in complex pain cases.

Our service integrates advanced locoregional anaesthetic techniques—including ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks, neuraxial anaesthesia, and continuous nerve catheter infusions—with multimodal pharmacological strategies tailored to the underlying pain mechanisms (nociceptive, neuropathic, inflammatory, or mixed).

Therapeutic protocols are developed on a case-by-case basis, alongside novel modalities and targeted physiotherapy plans. Where appropriate, we also employ interventional procedures to address specific sources of refractory pain.

The recent opening of our specialist-led pain clinic provides a dedicated referral pathway for patients requiring advanced analgesia, perioperative pain optimisation, or ongoing management of chronic pain syndromes such as osteoarthritis, neuropathic pain, or cancer-related pain. Each patient undergoes a comprehensive pain assessment—including validated pain scoring systems and functional mobility evaluation—to guide intervention selection and outcome monitoring.

By combining the precision of modern locoregional techniques with an evidence-based, multimodal framework, Blaise Birmingham delivers a gold-standard approach to pain management, improving patient welfare and supporting referring clinicians in managing complex analgesic challenges.
