Interventional Radiology

Blaise is proud to provide a variety of interventional treatments and minimally invasive procedures.

Interventional Radiology (IR) combines the expertise of specialists from a number of disciplines including Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Diagnostic Imaging and Soft Tissue Surgery. It uses image guidance (fluoroscopy, ultrasound, endoscopy or CT) to access areas of the body and deliver a treatment.

IR has revolutionised the treatment of many conditions giving new options for previously untreatable or difficult to treat diseases. It is a relatively new discipline, which is evolving and progressing all the time to the huge benefit of our patients and their owners.

Commonly treated conditions include:

  • Vascular – coil embolisation of portosystemic shunts, vascular stenting, tumour embolisation
  • Uronephrology – laser ablation of ectopic ureters, laser treatment of neoplasms, urethral and ureteral stenting
  • Respiratory – balloon dilatation of nasopharyngeal stenosis, stenting of stenosis or tracheal collapse, minimally invasive therapy of sinonasal aspergillosis
  • Gastrointestinal – balloon dilatation of strictures, stent placement for obstruction, minimally invasive biliary interventions
  • Cardiac – patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) occlusion, balloon dilatation of pulmonic stenosis (or other narrowings), pacemaker implantation

Blaise brings together a number of specialists with interests in this field to establish one of the most experienced IR teams in the country. Many of them have spent time at renowned international centres or had significant advanced training in the procedures offered.
