Marisa Lourenço - Emergency and Critical Care Clinician
Marisa Lourenço DVM MRCVS Emergency and Critical Care Clinician

Marisa graduated from the University of Évora, Portugal in 2015.

She has worked in general practice, out of hours and veterinary hospitals in Portugal, UK and the USA, completing an ECC internship followed by an ECC residency in the USA.

Marisa has presented at a number of ECC congresses, and presented at small animal seminars and congresses for Portuguese veterinary students and veterinarians.

Her future plans include teaching emergency and critical care to veterinary students and general practitioners

Marisa’s clinical interests are respiratory diseases, focusing on the use of mechanical ventilation and other invasive and non-invasive methods for the management of acute and chronic airway and lung conditions. She also enjoys working on trauma patients and post-operative care in ICU.

Marisa choose emergency and critical care because, “I love how both complex and fragile our sickest patients can be. Even in scenarios where all hope appears  to be lost, critical care offers a chance of healing and cure to animals that, without this type of approach, could face a very different outcome.”

She shares her life with Dolly, a Spanish Pomeranian, and Pedro a young stray American cat, and  says, “We are a multicultural family, but at home, everyone speaks, barks and meow in Portuguese!”  When she is not spending time with her pets, Marisa enjoys spending time outdoors with loved ones, and travelling to new places to experience their culture.
